Enhancing the capacity of English teachers and English learners through Mentoring, Training and free access to English Resource Centers in Herat Gowharshaad School and Teacher Training College

The project aims to enhance the capacity of English teachers and English learners in Herat, Afghanistan, through mentoring, training, and free access to English Resource Centers. The duration of the project is two years, and it consists of several components.

Enhancing the Capacity of 200 Government Teachers:

200 government teachers will receive training in teaching methodology, culture and literature, reflective and critical skills, field experience, basic research, student and teacher mobility, mentoring skills, and computer programs. The teachers will have access to millions of English teacher resources through a computer program provided by the U.S. Embassy. This training will be conducted over a period of 5 months. The teachers will also receive mentoring and coaching at their schools, both in the classroom and through telephonic conversations, for a period of 5 months.

Establishing an English Resource Center:

An English Resource Center will be established in Gowharshad School in Herat, Afghanistan. The center will facilitate English teachers and learners in enhancing their knowledge and accessing free internet resources. The center will also provide resources for learning English and computer programs. Enhancing the Capacity of 800 Herat Universities, Teacher Training College, and Schools Students: 800 students from Herat universities, Teacher Training College, and schools will receive professional English courses. The courses will cover teaching English and supportive classes such as conversation, grammar, writing, and reading.

The training program will span a period of 24 months.

Enhancing the Capacity of 800 Herat Universities, Teacher Training College, and Schools Students in Computer and Internet Skills: 800 students from Herat universities, Teacher Training College, and schools will receive professional courses in computer programs and internet skills. English and Computer Training for Nominated Experienced Teachers: Four nominated experienced teachers from Gowharshad School and Teacher Training College will receive theoretical and practical training in English language teaching over a period of 17 months.

Additionally, four nominated experienced teachers from the Teacher Training College will receive theoretical and practical training in computer programs over a period of 9 months.

Teacher Training in India:

Four nominated experienced teachers from Gowharshad School and Teacher Training College will undergo a one-month teacher training program in India. By implementing these components, the project aims to enhance the capacity and skills of English teachers and learners in Herat, Afghanistan, thereby improving the quality of English education and promoting access to resources and knowledge in the field of English language teaching.
