Integrated Saffron Production, Extension and Marketing Training Program for 570 farmers in 8 districts of Herat-Afghanistan
The Integrated Saffron Production, Extension, and Marketing Training program is a two-year initiative aimed at supporting 570 female and male farmers in saffron cultivation. The project involves several key activities:
Provision of saffron bulbs: The project provides saffron bulbs to the target farmers. These bulbs are essential for cultivating saffron and enable the farmers to establish their saffron fields.
Provision of fertilizers: To promote healthy plant growth and maximize saffron yields, the project supplies fertilizers to the farmers. These fertilizers provide the necessary nutrients for the saffron plants to thrive.
Collaboration with UNWFP for food aid: The project collaborates with the United Nations World Food Programme (UNWFP) to explore ways to provide food aid to the families of the target farmers. This collaboration aims to address any food insecurity issues and ensure the well-being of the farmers and their families throughout the project.
Provision of systematic trainings: The project offers systematic trainings on saffron production, extension, and marketing to the target farmers. These trainings cover various aspects of saffron cultivation, including planting, irrigation, pest control, harvesting, and post-harvest processing. Additionally, the trainings provide insights into effective marketing strategies for saffron products.
Provision of saffron production and marketing toolkits: To support the farmers in their saffron cultivation and marketing efforts, the project supplies them with saffron production and marketing toolkits. These toolkits include necessary equipment, materials, and resources for saffron production, such as harvesting tools, drying trays, packaging materials, and marketing guidance.
The Integrated Saffron Production, Extension, and Marketing Training program aims to empower both female and male farmers by providing them with the resources, knowledge, and support to successfully engage in saffron cultivation. Through the provision of saffron bulbs, fertilizers, trainings, and toolkits, the project strives to enhance saffron production, improve farmers’ livelihoods, and facilitate the marketing of saffron products.
